Parker hosting Heneghan Run Nov. 9
Parker School will host its 14th annual Heneghan Run Nov. 9. The event is open to the public and consists of a 1K keiki run and a 5K fun run. It was established in memory of Hawaii architect George Heneghan, who was also an accomplished athlete, teacher and coach. He coached cross-country and track at Parker from 1992 to ’98.
This year, all proceeds from the run will go to Parker’s Ohana Day canned food drive for local food banks. The entry fee for adults is $15 plus two cans of food; for students, $10 plus two cans of food. Medals will be awarded to first place overall male and female finishers and first place finishers in each age category.
Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. on race day. The 1K keiki run starts at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K fun run begins at 9 a.m. Registration includes a T-shirt and refreshments. Participants whose registration forms are received after Friday are not guaranteed a T-shirt. Child care will be provided for children of 5K participants. Nov. 11 open house
Hawaii Preparatory Academy is hosting an open house for prospective kindergarten to eighth-grade students Nov. 11.
Check-in for the K-8 open house at the village campus begins at 8 a.m., with the day’s program running from 8:30 to 11 a.m.
Check-in for ninth- through 12th-graders and post graduate open house at the upper school begins at 9:30 a.m., with the day’s program running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A light lunch will be served.
Prospective students and their families will meet teachers and administrators, hear from current students and parents, visit classrooms and tour the campuses, observe unique course offerings and after-school programs, and learn more about the admission process.

Ka Makani Players present ‘42nd Street’
Hawaii Preparatory Academy’s Ka Makani Players will present “42nd Street” Nov. 7 to 10 at the school’s Gates Performing Arts Center in Waimea. Shows begin at 7 p.m. Nov. 7 to 9 and at 4 p.m. Nov. 10. Tickets, which only are available at the door, are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
HPA theater instructor Marina Tichotsky is the director, music director and costume designer. Jared Terpak is the technical director and set/lighting designer.
“42nd Street,” the musical for people who love musicals, is a big, bold production set in 1933. It is a celebration of Broadway and the people involved in shows and the story of hard work, being in the right place at the right time, talent and love. The story focuses on aspiring chorus girl Peggy Sawyer, and takes the audience on her journey to stardom. Musical hits include “Lullaby of Broadway,” “Forty-Second Street,” “We’re in the Money,” “Shuffle Off to Buffalo,” “You’re Getting to Be a Habit with Me,” “Dames,” and “I Know Now.”
The cast features Miller White as Julian Marsh, Kimi Cantyne as Peggy Sawyer, Leilani Bostock as Dorothy Brock, Kharim Barthson as Billy Lawlor, DJ Sekiya as Pat Denning, Churchill Crean as Abner Dillon, Tyler Alt as Andy Lee, Eugene Kao as Bert Barry, and Harmony Graziano as Maggie Jones. Thirty-five other HPA students play supporting roles, with 55 more students in the orchestra and assisting with production.
